PROJECT DETAILS

The project, named SRIJAN, is a collaborative effort between PARAS INDIA and ROYAL ENFIELD. It focuses on repurposing waste materials, specifically bike cover cloths, to create thick layered fabric blankets for winter. This initiative aims to bring something useful out of waste and improve its utility.

PROJECT GOAL

  • The primary goal of the SRIJAN project is to save lives by providing blankets made from repurposed bike cover cloths. By repurposing these materials, the project aims to contribute to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). In particular, it aligns with Goal 5 on gender equality by creating employment opportunities and empowering women.

OBJECTIVES

  1. Reuse and repurpose: The project aims to repurpose bike cover cloths, which would otherwise go to waste, into thick layered fabric blankets. By reusing these materials, the project reduces waste and promotes responsible consumption and production (Goal 12).

  2. Empowerment of women: The SRIJAN project aims to provide employment opportunities for women. By employing 30 women under this initiative, it fosters gender equality, economic empowerment, and independence.

  3. Sustainable growth and innovation: The project supports Goal 9 on industry, innovation, and infrastructure. By fostering innovation in repurposing materials and creating sustainable growth, it contributes to inclusive development.

  4. Safe production and consumption: The SRIJAN project ensures safe production and consumption patterns by utilising waste materials to create blankets for the needy. It promotes responsible consumption (Goal 12) and contributes to sustainable cities and communities (Goal 11).

OUTCOME & CONCLUSION

The SRIJAN project has achieved several positive outcomes:

  1. Employment opportunities: By employing 30 women, the project has provided income opportunities and empowered them to become independent and self-assured.

  2. Waste reduction: The initiative has successfully repurposed bike cover cloths, effectively reducing waste and promoting responsible consumption and production.

  3. Provision of blankets: The project has created thick layered fabric blankets from repurposed materials, providing warmth and comfort to those in need during the winter season.

  4. Contribution to the SDGs: Through its focus on gender equality, responsible consumption and production, and sustainable growth, the SRIJAN project actively contributes to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

The SRIJAN project, a collaborative effort between PARAS INDIA and ROYAL ENFIELD, exemplifies the spirit of repurposing waste materials to create something valuable and useful. By turning bike cover cloths into thick layered fabric blankets, the project not only saves lives but also contributes to the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Through its employment of 30 women, the initiative empowers them and promotes gender equality. Additionally, it fosters innovation, sustainable growth, and responsible consumption and production. By providing blankets to the needy without wasting any material, the project ensures safe production and consumption patterns, making a positive impact on society and the environment.

The SRIJAN project serves as an inspiring example of how collaboration, innovation, and social responsibility can work together to create a more sustainable and inclusive future.
