PROJECT DETAILS
PARAS India, in collaboration with Usha International Ltd., proudly implements the Usha Silai School Project—an innovative and impactful initiative aimed at empowering women in the districts of Kanpur Dehat and Balrampur. This project focuses on uplifting underserved rural communities by equipping women with sewing skills, entrepreneurial training, and the tools necessary to achieve economic independence
The project provides women with:

Training in sewing techniques and machine handling

A Usha sewing machine to begin their journey

Skills in entrepreneurship, financial literacy, and community outreach

The opportunity to establish their own Silai Schools, where they can train others, generate income, and become catalysts of change in their villages
The Usha Silai School Project stands as a shining example of how strategic partnerships and skill-based empowerment can ignite long-term, meaningful change in rural India.
OBJECTIVES:

To empower marginalized women through vocational skillset of Sewing

To nurture grassroots women entrepreneurship by setting up independent SILAI SCHOOLS

To promote financial inclusion and literacy

To strengthen community-based, peer-led training ecosystems

ACHIEVEMENTS:

Skilled and Empowered Hundreds of Women
Trained a significant number of women in tailoring, enabling them to become self-reliant and contribute to family income. -
Established Functioning Home-Based Silai Schools
Successfully set up multiple Silai Schools operated by trained women from their homes, offering stitching services and training to others in their communities. -
Creation of Women Micro-Entrepreneurs
Transformed women from economically and socially weaker backgrounds into confident micro-entrepreneurs managing their own small businesses. -
Peer-to-Peer Training Model implemented
Built a network of women trainers who further trained others in their neighborhoods, ensuring wide grassroots outreach and sustainability. -
Enhanced Household’s Livelihood Security, Health and Education indicators
Improved the financial stability of hundreds of families by enabling women to earn regular incomes from stitching orders and training fees. -
Boosted Women’s Social Status and Confidence
Increased community recognition and self-confidence among women who were previously confined to domestic roles. -
Contributed to SDG Goals
Advanced multiple UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including Gender Equality (SDG 5), Decent Work (SDG 8), and No Poverty (SDG 1).
